We all love to see the ponies on Dartmoor as we drive about. What we sometimes don’t realise is that all the ponies are owned, and the number of ponies that each farmer is allowed to keep on Dartmoor is restricted.This means that many of the foals born each year need to find another home. Our charity helps to achieve this. We are in need of extra help within our fund-raising team. Every person within our charity is a volunteer. No one receives a wage, so there is no paid work available.

This means that all monies raised goes towards our precious ponies in one way or another. Do you have some time on your hands that could be donated? As it’s on a voluntary basis, you can do as much or as little as you feel works for you. Our team regularly attend antique fayres, they do collections on the door at some events, they also go to shows and run a stall selling bits and bobs, or a tombola or just disseminating information. Sometimes we have a pony in a pen to draw people to the stall. Some of our charity fees will be vet costs, pony passport fees, transport fees, tack, tools, hay, feed or bedding. We advertise our ponies widely as riding ponies, driving ponies, companion ponies, and as conservation grazers. We also run the Chagford pony drift sale, which is every October, in addition this year we tried a new idea of an online sale. We pay for the contraceptive scheme to reduce the annual foal crop and take part in various scientific studies to know more about our wonderful semi-wild herds.
